This means eligible salaried taxpayers can have nil tax up to \u20b912.75 lakh under the new regime, subject to the rebate conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_Is_Considered_Salary_Income\"><\/span>What Is Considered Salary Income?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Under the Income Tax Act, salary income includes all payments received by an employee from an employer in exchange for services provided. These payments are taxable under the head \u201cIncome from Salary.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Salary can include several other components and benefits provided by the employer:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>1. Basic Salary: <\/strong>This is the fixed component of an employee\u2019s salary and forms the base for calculating many other allowances and benefits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>2. Dearness Allowance (DA): <\/strong>It is provided to employees to help offset the impact of inflation. It is usually taxable as part of salary income.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>3. House Rent Allowance (HRA): <\/strong>It is paid to employees who live in rented accommodation. Certain exemptions may be available under the old tax regime, subject to specific conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>4. Bonuses and Incentives: <\/strong>Performance bonuses, commissions, and incentives received from the employer are also treated as part of salary income and are generally taxable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>5. These deductions help reduce your taxable income and lower the overall tax liability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, the deductions available depend on whether you choose the new tax regime or the old tax regime while filing your income tax return.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Income Tax Deductions for Salaried Employees under the New Tax Regime (Section 115BAC)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Under the new tax regime, most deductions and exemptions are not available. However, a few specific deductions are still allowed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Standard Deduction<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Salaried employees can claim a standard deduction of \u20b975,000 under the new regime for FY 2025\u201326. This deduction is one of the reasons why salaried taxpayers can have nil tax up to \u20b912.75 lakh under the new regime, subject to conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Employer Contribution to NPS (Section 80CCD(2))<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If your employer contributes to the National Pension System (NPS) on your behalf, you can claim a deduction for that amount.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>14% of the salary for Central and State Government employees<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>10% of the salary for private-sector employees<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3.
