With India\u2019s strong defence strategies, this sector is not only growing within the country, but has now become one of the crucial exporting nations for 100 other countries. In the past 11 years, <strong>India\u2019s defence exports<\/strong> have surged 34X from FY14\u2019s \u20b9686 crore to FY25\u2019s \u20b923622 crore. As per experts, varied reasons are playing behind in making India a net exporter of <strong>defence products<\/strong> from a net importer a few years back.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-eyeing-robust-growth-nbsp\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Eyeing_Robust_Growth\"><\/span>Eyeing Robust Growth&nbsp;<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In FY25, the <strong>defence exports<\/strong> saw a rise of around 12% from \u20b921083 crore in FY24 to the record high exports of \u20b923622 crore. For FY26, the defence officials are eyeing an export figure of \u20b930000 crore.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>defence exports target <\/strong>set by the Defence Ministry for 2029 is of \u20b950000 crore. As per the details shared by the ministry, India has become one of the most self-reliant countries when it comes to defence production. At the same time, it is exporting its wide range of arms and ammunition, other defence equipment parts and controls, systems, sub-systems to more than 80 countries around the world.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While <strong>BrahMos<\/strong> has all the eyes on it from around the world, there are other ballistic <strong>Indian missiles&nbsp;<\/strong>as well, like K4, K15, then the artillery guns, rifles, which are tech-enabled, all this war equipment is in high demand from across different parts of the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Apart from this equipment, <strong>Indian defence exports <\/strong>also include a plethora of products and equipment.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Bulletproof jackets<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Chetak Helicopters\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Lightweight torpedoes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fast interceptor boats<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dornier (DO-228) aircrafts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Night vision monocular and binocular<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Torpedo loading mechanism<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tear gas launchers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>HF radios<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Armoured protection vehicles\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Others<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the April statement given by the Defence Ministry, there has been a significant rise in exports of around 42.9% by the Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs). It is also indicative of the growing acceptance and demand for Indian defence products.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the other hand, the private sector contributed around \u20b915233 crore in the <strong>defence exports <\/strong>in FY25, while DPSUs contributed \u20b98389 crore. A year back, these figures stood at \u20b915209 crore and \u20b95874 crore respectively, showing a huge rise for the experts from DPSUs.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The top nations that are importing defence equipment from India include \u2013&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>USA<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Armenia<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>France<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>South East Asian Countries and South America are also becoming top importing nations, as per sources.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-factors-driving-growth-nbsp\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Factors_Driving_Growth\"><\/span>Factors Driving Growth&nbsp;<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Coming to the factors that are driving this immense growth in <strong>India\u2019s<\/strong> <strong>defence exports<\/strong>, one of the primary reasons is the technology growth. This is an era of modern warfare, which is all about technology, and India rules the modern warfare space with its highly advanced technologies, along with artificial intelligence. Ravi Gupta, the former Director of <strong>DRDO,<\/strong> commented that we are capable of manufacturing advanced, modern-day warfare equipment.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The reforms in the policies have played an immense role in boosting exports. India has eased the policies for doing business in this sector, which has contributed to the growing expertise.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Defence Ministry also approved a new system known as \u201c<strong>Open General Export License\u201d (OGEL)<\/strong> for <strong>defence exports<\/strong>. It is a one-time license for exports of particular items, and thus, no requirement for other export authorization under this system.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Earlier, the ministry eased exports of <strong>defence products<\/strong> and also eased the policies for participating in <strong>defence expos <\/strong>in Sri Lanka, Singapore, Bahrain, and the UAE.
