It will focus on ecosystem planning, market design, infrastructure development and risk mitigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Offshore wind projects require specialised port infrastructure, marine logistics, seabed leasing frameworks and reliable turbine manufacturing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By improving coordination and industrial readiness, the partnership aims to build a more resilient global supply chain for offshore wind deployment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Financing_Models_and_Risk_Mitigation_Framework\"><\/span>Financing Models and Risk Mitigation Framework<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The India-UK Offshore Wind Taskforce will also develop viable financing models to support early-stage projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The government had earlier introduced a Viability Gap Funding (VGF) scheme in 2024 with a total outlay of \u20b97,453 crore.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u20b96,853 crore for installation and commissioning of 1 GW of offshore wind energy projects (500 MW each off Gujarat and Tamil Nadu)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u20b9600 crore for upgrading two ports to support offshore wind logistics<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These measures aim to accelerate initial capacity addition and improve infrastructure readiness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"10_GW_Offshore_Evacuation_Capacity_Plan\"><\/span>10 GW Offshore Evacuation Capacity Plan<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Transmission planning for an initial 10 GW offshore evacuation capacity has been completed. This includes 5 GW each off the coasts of Gujarat and Tamil Nadu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This planning is crucial for integrating offshore wind energy into the national grid. Without adequate evacuation infrastructure, large-scale renewable energy generation cannot be effectively utilised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new taskforce is expected to fast-track progress in line with India\u2019s broader renewable energy targets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Offshore_Wind_and_Indias_Renewable_Energy_Goals\"><\/span>Offshore Wind and India\u2019s Renewable Energy Goals<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">India has made significant progress in expanding renewable energy capacity. The country has already surpassed 50% of installed electricity capacity from non-fossil sources, 5 years ahead of its 2030 target.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Current installed non-fossil capacity stands at over 272 GW, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>More than 141 GW of solar<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Around 55 GW of wind<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the current fiscal year alone, India added over 35 GW of solar and 4.61 GW of wind capacity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Conclusion\"><\/span>Conclusion<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The launch of the India-UK Offshore Wind Taskforce signals deeper energy cooperation between the two countries.
