class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This change is part of a broader push to strengthen the <strong>FDI in insurance sector in India<\/strong>, while still maintaining control over strategic institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_the_New_FDI_Rule_Means_for_the_Insurance_Sector\"><\/span><strong>What the New FDI Rule Means for the Insurance Sector<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Under the updated framework:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2022 <strong>100 percent foreign investment in the insurance sector<\/strong> is now allowed.<br>\u2022 This applies to both insurers and intermediaries, including brokers.<br>\u2022 The investment will be class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This clearly shows a dual approach where private players get full access to foreign capital, while LIC remains protected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This means that while the entry barrier has been reduced, compliance standards remain strict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" December last year:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2022 Parliament passed a bill to increase the <strong>FDI in the insurance sector<\/strong> from 74 percent to 100 percent<br>\u2022 The aim was to improve insurance penetration across the country<br>\u2022 Lower premiums and increased competition were key expected outcomes<br>\u2022 The move was also expected to create more jobs<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The reform was part of the <strong>Sabka Bima Sabki Raksha (Amendment of Insurance Laws) Bill, 2025<\/strong>, which was cleared by both Houses of Parliament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Several amendments proposed by the Opposition, including sending the bill to a parliamentary panel, were rejected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Governments_View_on_Increasing_the_FDI_Limit\"><\/span><strong>Government\u2019s View on Increasing the FDI Limit<\/strong><span sector FDI limit<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She stated that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2022 The amendments would allow foreign companies to bring in more capital<br>\u2022 This would strengthen the financial position of insurance companies<br>\u2022 The sector still has significant room to grow<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She also pointed out that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2022 Opening the sector has already improved insurance penetration<br>\u2022 There is still scope for further expansion<br>\u2022 Many foreign companies avoid entering India due to a lack of suitable joint venture partners<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With 100 percent <strong>FDI in the insurance sector in India<\/strong>, these companies can now enter independently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\"
