{"id":2491,"date":"2026-06-09T08:48:22","date_gmt":"2026-06-09T08:48:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shoonya.com\/faq\/?p=2491"},"modified":"2026-09-07T03:21:39","modified_gmt":"2026-09-07T03:21:39","slug":"how-much-margin-will-i-receive","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shoonya.com\/faq\/mtf\/how-much-margin-will-i-receive\/","title":{"rendered":"How much margin will I receive?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The margin you receive depends on the\u202fValue at Risk (VAR) and the Extreme Loss<strong> <\/strong>Margin (ELM) regulatory norms\u202ffor each stock.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Quantum of leverage may\u202f change on a daily basis, and Shoonya will have the sole discretion to decide the same.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Margin is calculated as VAR + 3X ELM or 33.33%, whichever is higher\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>For non-F&amp;O stocks:<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Margin is calculated as VAR + 5x ELM or 33.33%, whichever is higher\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Example scenario<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let&#8217;s assume:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Stock price: \u20b9100<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>VAR: 5%\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>ELM: 4%\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The margin requirement would be:\u202fVAR + 5 \u00d7 ELM = 5% + 5 \u00d7 4% = 5% + 20% = 25% or 33.33% whichever is higher&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thus, for a stock priced at \u20b9100, the margin required is \u20b933.33. This means with \u20b9100 in your account, you can buy: \u20b9300 \/ \u20b933.33 = 9 shares approx.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Note: <\/strong>If the margin requirement for a stock increases beyond 50% on any trading day, fresh MTF positions in that stock will no longer be permitted.
