Brokerage is not the only cost you pay when you place a trade. Your final trading cost also includes STT, exchange transaction charges, GST, SEBI fees, and stamp duty, which can change your real profit or loss.

With the brokerage calculator, you can quickly check the expected cost for intraday or delivery trades, compare scenarios, and understand how much price movement you need to break even.

What Is a Brokerage Calculator?

A brokerage calculator is an online tool that estimates the total cost of a trade before placing a trade, including:

  • Brokerage
  • Government and exchange charges
  • Total charges
  • Net profit/loss and breakeven points

It helps traders understand the real impact of charges on intraday and delivery trades.

What Are the Types of Brokerage Calculators?

Shoonya offer the following 4 types of brokerage calculators: Equity, Currency, FnO, and Commodity.

Calculator TypeUsed ForWhy It Helps
Equity Brokerage CalculatorIntraday & delivery equity tradesShows full trade cost + breakeven
F&O Brokerage CalculatorFutures and optionsHelps estimate charges per executed order
Currency Brokerage CalculatorCurrency derivativesUseful for intraday hedging costs
Currency Brokerage CalculatorMCX commodity tradesUseful for intraday hedging costs

What Charges Does a Brokerage Calculator Include?

A brokerage calculator typically shows these cost components:

  • Brokerage: Fee charged by the broker per executed order
  • STT (Securities Transaction Tax): Tax levied on buy/sell based on segment and trade type
  • Exchange Transaction Charges: Charges levied by NSE/BSE/other exchanges
  • GST: Applied on brokerage and some transaction charges (not on STT)
  • SEBI Fees: Regulatory fee charged by SEBI
  • Stamp Duty: State-wise duty on buying transactions (varies by segment/state)
  • DP Charges (Delivery sell-side): Depository charge when you sell delivery shares

What Inputs Do You Need to Calculate Brokerage?

To calculate brokerage, you will need to add the specific stock-related information as given:

  1. Exchange (NSE / BSE)
  2. Trade type (Intraday / Delivery)
  3. Number of shares (quantity)
  4. Buy price per share
  5. Sell price per share

The calculator then estimates charges and breakeven based on turnover and applicable fee rules.

How Does the Brokerage Calculator Work?

Once you enter trade details, the calculator:

Step 1: Compute turnover, buy value + sell value or as per segment logic

Step 2: Applies brokerage rule

Step 3: Adds statutory and exchange charges

Step 4: Shows the total cost of trade

Step 5: Calculates points to breakeven (minimum price movement needed to cover charges)

Example: Equity Intraday Brokerage Calculation

Assume:

  • Exchange: NSE
  • Trade type: Intraday
  • Quantity: 50 shares
  • Buy price: ₹1,000
  • Sell price: ₹1,180

Step 1: Calculate turnover

Buy value = 50 × ₹1,000 = ₹50,000Sell value = 50 × ₹1,180 = ₹59,000

Turnover = ₹1,09,000

Step 2: Brokerage

Shoonya charges ₹5 or 0.03% of the executed order amount, whichever is lower, for intraday trades, plus GST.

Brokerage = ₹5 (buy) + ₹5 (sell) = ₹10 (GST extra)

Step 3: Other charges: A brokerage calculator will then add applicable charges.

Step 4: Total cost and breakeven

If the calculator’s total charges for this trade come to ₹36.58, then:

Points to breakeven = Total charges ÷ Quantity = 36.58 ÷ 50 = ₹0.73 per share

This means the net price movement needs to cover at least ₹0.73 per share to recover costs and break even.

Note: Exact statutory/exchange charges can vary and may change over time. Use the calculator output for the latest applied totals.
